Shri Salik Ram Jan Kalyan Shiksha Samiti's health, education, livelihood and disaster relief and response programmes bring lasting change in the lives and livelihoods of marginalised women and girls.

Doubtless, education is the most powerful catalyst for social transformation. But child education cannot be done in isolation. A child will go to school only if the family, particularly the mother, is assured of healthcare and empowered. Moreover, when an elder sibling is relevantly skilled to be employable and begins earning, the journey of empowerment continues beyond the present generation.

Shri Salik Ram Jan Kalyan Shiksha Samiti focuses on the empowerment of women and girls because they are disproportionately affected by poverty and discrimination; and suffer abuse and violations in the realisation of their rights, entitlements and access and control over resources. Also, experience shows that, when equipped with the proper resources, women have the power to help whole families and entire communities overcome poverty, marginalisation and social injustice.

“People call me useless. Since two years I have been sitting at home - because of my illness. I feel helpless when their mother has to go and work in other houses to earn food for the family. My friends, family all turned their back during crisis. But my wife and children – they still love me the same. I have got the most beautiful children in the world. When their mother is off to work, they take care of me, feed me and take me out for a walk. They make me laugh with endless stories from their school. When they are around, I forget all my pain and feel blessed that I have such a supportive family.”
